The original Constitution of India is a handwritten, calligraphed, and artistically illuminated document, created in 1949–1950, and preserved today in the Parliament Library in New Delhi.
Calligrapher: Prem Behari Narain Raizada meticulously handwrote the English version over six months, using a flowing italic style,
Illumination: Nandalal Bose, a celebrated artist, and his students from Kala Bhavan, Santiniketan, decorated the manuscript with illustrations representing various periods of Indian civilization, from the Indus Valley to the modern era.
Features: The cover is black, embossed in gold, bearing the seal and emblem of the Union. Each page also carries the calligrapher’s name at the bottom.
Signatures: The finished manuscript was signed by all Constituent Assembly members on 24 January 1950.
